About this job

As a Technical Portfolio Manager you will assist in the effective management of portfolio strategies and asset management in order to optimise financial return, within the set risk appetite, and increased financial inclusion. You will work within a small high-performance results orientated team engaging across the Data and Prediction department, and you will report to the Head of Portfolio Operations.


You will 

  • Affect and control portfolio strategy changes of the financial product offering on the portfolios as per portfolio manager requirements
  • Affect and control portfolio asset management changes on the portfolios as per asset manager requirements
  • Affect and control marketing and collection strategies on the portfolios as per marketing and portfolio manager requirements
  • Ensure all portfolio decisions and changes are made using the highest quality of data inputs by  collaborating with Data Engineering and Decision Science and Analytics teams
  • Using data insights, be able to troubleshoot portfolio issues and lead the charge for remedial action
  • Work with product and technical teams to implement business requirements from Decision Science and Analytics and Portfolio Management teams.
  • Provide support and assist with complex problem solving across various teams
  • Be able to work independently and be bold enough to challenge the status quo even outside of your domain
  • Be able to fully conceptualize the customer journey from onboarding to maturity and the interacting systems and processes involved

You will need

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Finance, Industrial Engineering or equivalent tertiary degree
  • 3+ years’ experience in a Credit/Banking/Finance environment, as well as, 3+ years’ experience in an Analyst capacity
  • Proficiency in SQL and relevant RDBMS technology such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift and SQL Server
  • Experience working with production BI environments and tools (Tableau, Superset, Qlikview, SAS Visual Analytics)
  • Working knowledge of Python
  • Understanding of the credit lifecycle
  • Proven ability to work with diverse teams to ensure effective implementation of projects
  • Effective communication of technical concepts
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment

Bonus if you have 

  • Comfortable working with Github
  • Proficiency in data analytics/mining using Python
  • Strategic decision making
  • Experience in Credit risk management, Customer Value Management
  • Business analysis or process engineering experience
  • Experience working in an Agile environment

Remote First

You will be based in South Africa. We operate a remote first working approach where working remotely is our default way of working. We have co-working spaces available in Cape Town for collaboration and connection and for the use of those who value and want to work out of an office. You have flexibility where to work from, as long as you have access to a reliable connection and are set up to work remotely.
