Senior Accountant

About this job

As Senior Accountant you will be accountable for managing the Accounting and Creditors team, as well as, ensuring that accounts and financial records meet established standards and criteria. You will own all operating companies and service companies and financial statements and reports produced by the team, as well as verify transactions and ensure sufficient controls are in place over the accounts.  You will be based in South Africa and you will report to the Group Finance Manager.

 

You will 

• Own the ERP and the use of accounts including the GL dictionary and the project codes including mapping (and sign off) of new accounts.
• Own all operating company and Service company trial balances and oversee accurate and timely recording and reconciliation of financial accounts, including the salary and tax accounts, by the accounting & creditors teams.
• Support and provide guidance to the Creditors and procurement team
• Ensure creditors, cashbooks and petty cash capturing is kept up to date and reviewed on a weekly basis.
• Review all consolidation journals and monthly management accounts taking into account all multi currencies. 
• Ensure the monthly review of all balance sheet accounts, including Tax assets & liabilities, Accruals & Prepayments.
• Oversee calculation and review of transfer pricing calculations and relevant taxes.
• Review and account for more complex accounting transactions including, but not limited to other financial liabilities, intangible asset and FEC’s. 
• Review and identify errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and processes.
• Manage all supporting schedules to the financial statements and assist in drafting financial statements for the group in a timely manner.
• Interpret and apply relevant IFRS standards across all reporting entities
• Manage auditors and respond to the audit queries as well as keep audit findings to a minimum.
• Own MFI reporting for all Mauritius companies.
• Hold accountability for banking and bank management across the team.

 

You will need

• An accounting degree or relevant tertiary qualification with a CA(SA) qualification.
• A minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in a similar / general accounting role, within the financial services industry.
• Team management experience.
• Strong reporting skills and attention to detail.
• Excel experience, as well as, Accounting package familiarity.
• Experience working with multiple currencies in a group consolidation environment.
• Transfer pricing experience.
• Experience with tax, including withholding tax & VAT.
• To show initiative and the ability to identify, initiate and drive process improvements.
• Ability to self-manage and work effectively under pressure.
• Ability to adapt and work in a fast-changing environment.

You will be based in South Africa.  We operate a remote first working approach where working remotely is our default way of working. We have co-working spaces available in Cape Town for collaboration and connection and for the use of those who value and want to work out of an office.
